We work closely with industry stakeholders such as the NSW Building Commission, and both local and International consultant teams to ensure compliance with Australian Standards (AS), the National Construction Code (NCC), and the Design & Building Practitioners Act (DBPA).

In conjunction with structural and façade requirement, our tall-building designs undergo extensive wind tunnel testing to assess forces exerted on both in-situ structural elements and volumetric modular construction (VMC) components during construction and upon project completion.

The VMC elements have been rigorously analysed to validate their suitability for the development of high-rise buildings, e.g: 60 storeys. This analysis includes an in-depth examination of overall structural performance requirements, taking into account, material properties, strength, manufacturing tolerances, connections, and the functional and structural layout. All structural components strictly adhere to Part B1 – Structural Provisions of the NCC and relevant Australian Standard. In addition, each high-rise design undergoes peer review by global experts to provide our clients with the highest level of assurance.

Our façade system has been tested in accordance with AS/NZS 4284 to demonstrate compliance with Part 3 – Roof and Wall Cladding of the NCC, ensuring surface rainwater cannot penetrate the building. Wet areas are waterproofed in accordance with Specification 26 – Waterproofing and Water-Resistance Requirements for Building Elements in Wet Areas and AS 3740, fulfilling Clause F2D2 – Wet Area Construction of the NCC.

Site-based acoustic testing, conducted by Pulse White Noise Acoustics on prototype modules, confirms that our volumetric systems exceed NCC Part F7 – Sound Transmission and Insulation requirements for both sound transmission loss and impact sound isolation.

Space Labs Australia is committed to the ongoing measurement and assessment of embodied carbon. We collaborate with academic institutions to calculate, verify, and continually refine our approach, enabling us to identify and implement meaningful improvements over time. In addition, we actively seek low-carbon materials such as: green steel and aluminium, and require manufacturers to adopt advanced process methodologies, or use recyclable materials to reduce carbon emissions in material production, in alignment with our project requirements.

Modules are developed in various dimensions to meet individual project requirements. For standard production and to comply with NHVR (National Heavy Vehicle Regulation) requirements. The preferred dimensions are 3.5 metres in width, 12.0 metres in length, and 3.2 metres in height (inclusive of cladding). However, this depends on project requirements and physical site constraints. We can readily modify module dimensions to suit specific needs.
